The Red Crib

Once upon a time there was a girl who had a baby. This baby had a crib, of course, which was worn from years of use and other little girls with teeth who liked to chew on things.

So, one day the girl decided to paint it. "Red," she mused. "I think red would be the most delightful color." She blithefully got out her brushes and a can of cheery red paint and started painting. And kept painting. And painting. And painting. Would it really take a million coats to make it look fine? Could it be that the slats were multiplying as she went along?? And where did this drip come from? And this one? and this one and this one and this one????

Finally, at looooong last, the task was finished. And even though the results were exactly what she had envisioned and she knew her little one would have many nights of happy dreams therein, she solemnly swore that she would never, no never, not as long as she lived, paint another crib again.

It was so worth all the work! It's beautiful! I painted my boys' dresser red years ago and couldn't believe how much paint it took to make it the way I wanted it. Grr! No one told me to use a GRAY primer. Blah - no more red for me ever!

Oh I know the "joy" of painting things red... remember our cabinets and kitchen at the condo? Yeah. Lots and lots of coats of paint. But it looks so beautiful!

It does look SO DANG CUTE! Next time maybe spray paint??? =) Furniture is always harder then we imagine huh?

Lorie, spray paint would have been PERFECT. And that's what I WAS going to do... until my husband reminded me that we would have to take the crib apart to get it outside. And he wasn't up for it (and neither was I, in all honesty). But the whole time I was painting it I kept thinking about that spray paint and how EASY it would have been. oh, well. :)

Looks lovely, but I'm sure those slats were a pain in the rear! Red is such a hard color! I always love red doors and such, but then occassionally you'll see one that's just all wrong. I love this shade on her crib though. It's bright and cheery!

I love it!! You did a great job even if it was a pain. It adds the perfect pop of cheery color in there. Adorable!

It matches PERFECTLY! I love it! Maybe next time try spray painting it ...? That is what I did for Peyton's toddler bed and it was not that bad, took a couple coats of black. Anyways it looks amazing =)

This? Is why I adore you.

Such a lovely crib! You are inspiring me to add some more color to my stuff, too!

I really needed to read this! I'm soooo tempted to paint our crib but keep thinking it would be silly since it will probably only be used for one more kiddo before being put away for grandkids someday. You may have finally convinced me to let go of the avocado-colored dream crib. :)

Although, the red does look absolutely adorable!!!!

your story has inspired me to NEVER paint a crib, but the results are beautiful so I'm not sure that will stick! You seriously did a wonderful job! It makes the room pop! I've never seen a red crib before and I am loving it!

I hate painting in general, but wow, it is gorgeous! What a very pretty crib for your little girl. Good job!

I was exactly like you... thinking the whole time how much easier it would have been to SPRAY PAINT the darn thing. But same deal.... only I was 9 months pregnant when I decided to do it and I decided this while Andy was at work... so there was no way I was taking the thing apart and dragging it outside by myself. BUT... it would have been funny to be a fly on the wall when I was trying to fit myself with my GIANT belly under the thing to paint the inside. I was actually sweaty when I finished. What a workout. My quads were killing me!!! Your crib looks FAB. Love you.

I wish you could see the look on my face. Jaw dropped to the ground, eyes googled out. WOAH!!!!! Talia! That is stupendously PERFECT. PERFECT with your wall color too! Just a teeeeny weeeny jealous, cause I still need to paint Kate's. grrrrr

What an AMAZING job you did!! And I love the story that goes along with the reveal! :) I can imagine that it was probably a tedious task, but it's SO cute now and I'm sure every time you look at it you think how worth it it was!

Love, love, love the red crib :)!!! We did Addy's nursery (and now big girl room) more in reds than pinks.

I am in the process of repainting desks for the kids. What started as a great thrift store find has turned into a giant headache as I too can become a little obsessed with the "drips" :).

Thanks for sharing. You've inspired me to break out the brush again :)!
