In my own little garden

Beautiful blue delphinium

This past Saturday, Jeremy and I spent most of the day working the soil in the backyard and planting these:

We have, pictured above: 3 hydrangea bushes, 2 gardenias, 2 carmel creepers, 1 delphinium, and 1 bougainvillea. A veritable bevy of green and lovely things!

It was so fun (although a little warm) to be planting and gardening in our backyard. We've got a LONG ways to go back there before it looks anything like my dream garden straight out of a Cottage Living magazine-- a girl's got to have aspirations, you know-- but it's a start. And the good news is: 4 days later and nothing has died yet! Hooray!

It was fun to buy such cute garden gloves too.

A few days later when I was making my Target trip, I couldn't help but buy myself one of these to plant: I can't wait until this grows into a great big bush so that I can have lavender whenever I want!

To top off our weekend of green and growing things, I was pleasantly surprised and thrilled earlier this week to see that one of the bare-root roses I planted a few months ago in our front yard was blooming. Big, beautiful, yellow roses. Ah, lovely. I must confess I feel like a REAL gardener now!

oh how fun! I love the vine on the right. I can't wait to see your garden once everything has filled in. My lavender bush has been very happy this season, it has gotten very big! And three hydrangea! Oh how exciting :)

So fun! Gardening is one of our favorite hobbies. We have two big hydrangea bushes in the front and they're just starting to bloom, yay! We're big seed planters too. Way cheap and so much fun to watch them sprout and grow. My seed recommendations: nastursiams (sp?) I plant them in fall or spring and they are big and beautiful and replant themselves. Also, it's a great time to plant some sunflowers and zinnias if you have a corner where you can put them. They're such great summer flowers in our awful heat.

Can't decide which is more lovely...the new blog design or the new garden! I think it is a tie!!!

We aren't supposed to plant in central Illinois until May 15th so I am getting anxious. I want hanging baskets like the ones we saw in San Francisco two summers ago! I already have some of the ferns ready to go in them and I started two huge pots of herbs for my window herb garden. But I can't wait to go outside and make a Tuscany villa on my back deck!

Lovely, lovely, lovely! Your roses are gorgeous.

I too love lavendar - there's something so soothing and "old world" about it. I always joke that I'm an old woman trapped in a young-ish body, and lavendar just smells so right. Hubby hates it when I wear my Crabtree and Evelyn Lavendar lotion (because I smell like an old lady, that's why!). *lol*

Cannot wait to see your garden mature over the summer.
